LEGAL MATTERS

As with any swathe of legislation that relevant to the environment sector is open to wide and varied interpretation. In addition to statute, the regulator's guidance can bring its own more stringent interpretation and an even higher level of expectation. JIG works for customers to ensure that the law is applied fairly and correctly and, where there is scope, that a sense of reasonableness is maintained. Significant project savings have been secured by JIG simply through bringing "overly designed" drainage systems back to what is legally required.

JIG has also worked with reputable companies and their solicitors where, through the very nature of their business, it was almost inevitable that an incident would occur at some point. We help advise on legal aspects to enforcement action and, often more importantly, advise on how such action might be avoided or its risk minimised in the future.
